"This truck was purchased new by my grandmother's brother, Uncle Ed, in Hayesville, NC in 1953. He drove it for approx. 12 years and gave the truck to his son, Wallace, around 1965 to use at his Sinclair gas station on the square in Hayesville. He used the truck for the next 3 years before selling it to his uncle, my grandfather J.N. Alexander to use on the family farm. We refurbished it mechanically and painted it green. It stayed on the farm for the next 15 years, being used to haul cattle, produce and anything else farm related. It was also involved in some family members, myself included, learning to drive. A three speed on the column too-no automatic here! Eventually, we stopped farming around 1984 and the truck was parked in the barn for the next 20 years. I kept the engine turned over and checked in on it when we visited our parents. Dad gave me the title on one of those visits. He said that since I had been named after my grandfather, my name was already on the title and I would probably be the only one who would be interested in doing anything with it. It took me twenty years, but one day..... In 2004, my brother-in-law informed me that he had a rollback going to Murphy, NC and that it would be deadheading back. He offered to pick up the truck and bring it Asheville where he worked. From there, he could deliver it with a week. I decided to go ahead with the move since getting it to my house was the first step. I also had been doing research on parts availability for several years and was well aware that I had practically everything I needed just a few miles from home . I kept a current catalog from Dennis Carpenters at home, thinking that one day, I just might get the truck started. So, the truck arrived. It took another 2 years before work began. That gave me plenty of time to talk with Benny, Rod, and the staff at Carpenters. Having never done a project like this, it was priceless having their input. Somehow, we worked through the project in about a year and a half. The list of parts Carpenters provided grew longer as the project neared completion, but it was amazing that they had everything I needed to put my truck back on the road. There were even more parts available today than 20 years ago thanks to the ongoing efforts of the Carpenter staff. Even the long awaited hoods became available! All just a few miles from my home. A list of new parts from Dennis Carpenter's we used in this project include:
- Front fenders
- Rear fenders
- Running boards
- Tailgate
- Inner fenders
- Polished front & rear bumpers
- Front valence
- Numerous electric components, switches, wiring, etc.
- Turn signal upgrade kit
- Electric wipers
- Control switches
- Gauge sending units
- Headlight trim rings
- New chrome emblems
- Rubber seals for entire truck including glass and door seals
- Window lifts and door internal components including divider bar and window channel components.
- Hardware-all types in original and stainless.
- Bed hardware and strips
- And......priceless advice and intelligent discussion that kept the project on track to it's finish.
Some parts from other sources include a TCI coilover IFS, TCI four-link coilover rear suspension, Ford Racing 5.0 Crate Motor, TREMEC TKO 600 transmission. Old Air Hurricane A/C system, MasterPower disc/drum brakes. I tagged it in March, 2008. By May, I had it on the road weekly. The mileage was 5000 miles driven by the time December rolledaround. I even drove it back to Hayesville for my parent's 60th wedding anniversary so Dad could see it. It was quite a hit! Painted in it's original Glacier Blue color, it brought back more memories than I can list here. Worth every penny! And my 11 year old daughter wants me to pick her up at school every Friday in the truck. I admire her taste in vehicles. It might be her's someday!" -James Alexander, Kanapolis, NC. The Benefits of Tonneau Covers
Our high quality tonneau covers have some features in common, no matter which style you choose. |
 |
|
Better Aerodynamics
By closing off the bed, tonneau covers increase a truck’s aerodynamics, reducing drag that occurs when air moves over the cab of the truck and flows down into the bed, creating significant wind resistance. |
 |
Cargo Protection
The same forces that affect speed also impact anything you’re carrying in your truck. Smaller packages can be damaged by the force of air moving through the bed, and larger items can actually be lifted, increasing the danger of cargo falling from the bed. |
 |
Form Meets Function
While a tonneau cover is definitely a functional addition to your truck, there’s no question that it enhances the look as well. A great tonneau cover can enhance the sleek outline of your truck, making it as beautiful as it is reliable. |
